Tim Granberg's "Nubbinwood" is a hero adventure
film starring a humble beaver. It's beautifully rendered,
and seems well on its way to being beautifully told. If
Tim's earlier film "Swing" is any indication,
"Nubbinwood" will be a story well worth watching.
"My favorite kinds of movies are adventure stories
in which a lone hero sets off on an exciting journey filled
with danger and intrigue. That is the kind of story "Nubbinwood"
is. What I didn't expect, however, was how much this story
of a little beaver in the big world would eventually lead
me to an adventure of my own.
I'm not sure how or why the idea had come
to me, and I surely wasn't looking for a story to tell.
What I do know is that without "Nubbinwood" I
never would have started taking animation and filmmaking
so seriously. You have a big responsibility when you have
a good story that needs telling, and there are many things
a first-time filmmaker, like myself, needs to learn before
he begins to tell that story. What started as an idea, was
followed by years of analyzing movies and learning what
I could from books. Of course, there were also countless
hours becoming familiar with computer software, but my primary
focus remains on the craft of creating a good film.
As the production continues I begin to
wonder whether I am making an adventure movie about a beaver
named Nubbinwood or if it is Nubbinwood who is leading me?
It's curiously strange to feel like you're being guided
by a ficticious character, but I have experienced so much
because of my involvement in this project that I feel as
if we are traveling together. It's comforting to have a
"travel-buddy" on an adventure like this, but
also a little scary because I know, as the creator of "Nubbinwood"
that his journey does not end happily."
