LONDON -- U.K. claymation studio Aardman Animations has inked an exclusive three-year, first-look deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment, the two companies said Monday.

The Bristol-based studios, home of Oscar-winning animator Nick Park, said the decision to strike a multipicture deal with Sony hinged on "creative freedom," billing it as "the next chapter in the story of Aardman."

I'm glad that Aardman has found a new partner to work with that leaves both parties happy. Especially good to hear about the creative freedom. It's also good to hear that Aardman hasn't soured over their deal with DW, hopefully this will turn out to be more beneficial and rewarding for them.

Of course, this is just the signing phase. Things may prove to turn out otherwise, but the ink's fresh and hopes are high.

Very interesting! I hope it turns out well as the deal involves creative freedom, hopefully leaving Aardman the ability to focus on making pictures with that quirky humor they do best.
