Pixar: 20 Years of Animation
December 14, 2005–February 6, 2006

Film and Media Gallery, Titus 1 Lobby Gallery, Titus 2 Lobby Gallery, and throughout the first floor

In keeping with the Museum’s long tradition of presenting animation, this is the most extensive gallery exhibition that MoMA has ever devoted to the genre. Featuring over 500 works of original art on loan for the first time from Pixar Animation Studios, the show includes paintings, concept art, sculptures, and an array of digital installations. These works reveal the intricate, hands-on processes behind Pixar’s computer-generated films—including Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, The Incredibles, Cars, and numerous shorts. The exhibition also includes a complete retrospective of Pixar films. Demonstrating the symbiotic relationship between traditional and digital media pioneered by the studio over its twenty-year history, Pixar: 20 Years of Animation is a tribute to the artists whose work has reinvented the genre...

Anybody going to see it?! I'll hopefully be in NY in about a week... gonna try to see it!

BTW - on the MoMA website you can listen to the audio tour! Its the same thing they rent out so you can listen to it as you walk through the exhibit.

Cool - looks like the exhibit will head to The Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco when it's done with its run at MoMA Feb 6.

I got to see the exhibit today! This is defiinitely a must-see for anyone who's in the animation industry! Made me feel good, too, that people seemed to finally appreciate the work that goes into a cg film, and that its not just push-a-button-and-out-comes-a-movie. It was really cool seeing the maquettes, and character studies to see the evolution of a character from first concept to final character. Some of the cooler parts of the exhibit included a giant zoetrope with actual puppets that come to life when a strobe light comes on, and a huge screen made up of 4 projecters showing overlapping video of a really great montage of production art from all the films.

Go catch this before it's too late!!!

I was able to catch this as well. The book is worth the money for those of you who can't make it to NYC. The Zoetrope alone is worth the trip:

Next stop, the London Science Museum:
"The show will next be hosted by The Science Museum in London, England, from March 1 to June 10. "
