I don't know if anyone has seen the new commercial, but this CGI Orville Redenbacher just gives me the creeps:

I'm pretty indifferent about this. Never had any attachments to the actual person. At first glance, it looked like someone in heavy make up, but you can kind of tell better that it's cg in the high quality version.

I think it's this weird bobbing he does at the end of the commercial. Yes I know he's listening to music on his mp3 player, but it comes off as fake and robotic.

Orville Deadenbacher's bebop of the dead:

I thought it was some heavy make up as well. He reminded me of this guy: http://www.tvacres.com/admascots_mr_six.htm

So advances in CGI can now replicate bad make up effects. :)

BTW, if they really wanted to bring back Orville, why not go for the traditional cartoon look?

In the low res clip, I didn't understand he was CG. Just looked like a guy in a suit, like the Six Flags dude - a young kid dancing around in an Old Guy suit.

I didn't even attribute the sound non-sync to the actual production, but more the Wonders of Streaming Video, where crappy quality is the norm.

But the odd little floaty dance at the end is strange to unnerving.

Is it really this way on TV? I can't imagine a production house in the world letting this thing out of the shop like this. It looks like a work in progress, without all the bumps ironed out yet.

Yup, I watched it during the Golden Globes, and then read the posts on Cartoonbrew a few days later.
