Looks like the on-again, off-again 2D animated feature The Frog Princess is back on again. Evidently Lasseter and Catmull pulled that one back out of the dustbin and are going to have Disney Feature Animation do what Disney Feature Animation used to do better than anyone: make 2D animated features.

Looks like the directing team is the same one behind Aladdin and The Little Mermaid, and I think Treasure Planet. Evidently they'd like to use the 2D/3D combo they used in Treasure Planet. Should be interesting.

Which hooks back into THIS (http://www.animwatch.com/forum/showthread.php?t=258) from the forum a year ago! Nice catch, ZooRocket.

I am really glad to hear that Disney is going back to what it does best. Making amazing award wining animations. Here is to hoping that these new ones will be clasics for all time.

I agree. I am thrilled that they are bringing traditional back into the mainstream.

I think with Ron and John at the helm it should be a trip worth watching. They brought Disney back into the light with the success of Little Mermaid and I would be surprised if the same did not happen again. I think too since Disney is the one the will bring a traditional film into the mainstream theater that people will give them a chance.

I just hope they keep Rapunzel in production and let it be. That painterly look is amazing...on top of the fact that it is being directed by one of the greatest Disney animators alive.

I know, it seems like it'd be a shame. We can only hope the project is/was as compelling as the visuals.

I agree.

Since the Lasseter/Catmull crew has stepped in at least if it gets done it will have the chance to be better than if the sharks were calling the shots. I hear they're building a new animation building that will somewhat follow in the footsteps of Pixar's method of seperating the creatives from the executives.

anyway, that may just be grapejuice.
